The Code Compliance Division team is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Cathedral City. We protect the public health, safety, and welfare through the enforcement of local laws and regulations adopted by the Cathedral City Council that serve as community standards. By ensuring compliance with these standards, we help reduce vandalism, deter crime, maintain property values, and prevent neighborhood deterioration. Our team actively works with citizens and neighborhood groups to provide public education on City code requirements. Please contact us if you have any questions or need additional information. For your convenience, residents may use the City’s online complaint form or the GoRequest Mobile App to report suspected code violations.

Our Process

Potential violations are identified through the City’s online complaint form, emails, and referrals from other agencies or departments. Once a violation is identified, the responsible party is issued a notice providing a reasonable amount of time to correct the issue. Periodic follow-up inspections may be conducted to determine whether compliance has been achieved. Additional time may be provided depending on the circumstances and severity of the violation.

The Code Compliance Division places a strong emphasis on voluntary compliance whenever possible. However, when a responsible party fails or refuses to comply with City codes, enforcement action may be necessary. Citations may be issued as civil or criminal violations depending on the circumstances. A civil citation (administrative citation) may result in fines of no less than $100 per violation when issued for the first time. If a second civil citation is issued the fines may be $200 each violation, and $500 for each violation on the third civil citation. A criminal citation is an Infraction which is punishable by fines. You will need to have an arraignment and pay bail to the court.
