Department SummaryThe implementation of the General Plan and the General Plan Update are primary functions of the Planning Department. The Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, Design Guidelines and Specific Plans are all planning tools available to implement the General Plan. To that end, staff also utilizes capital improvement planning, the establishment of development related policies, development agreements, environmental review and processing of private development applications for public hearings. The department administers the Zoning Ordinance and interacts with other agencies, public groups and task forces, to promote beneficial planning for the community. The Planning Department is staff to the Development Services Committee, the Architectural Review Committee and the Planning Commission. The Planning Department coordinates project design review through these Committees and City Council. The planning staff also works throughout the year tracking regional planning issues of local significance and making recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council. The Planning Department has five staff members: City Planner, Senior Planner, Assistant Planner, Redevelopment Planning Liaison, Geographic Information Systems Coordinator and Administrative Assistant.
