Cathedral City Receives Air Pollution Reduction Grants
Posted Date: 5/29/2012 4:30 PM

The South Coast Air Quality Management District Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) awarded Cathedral City two $30,000 grants at its May meeting. The first grant will go toward the purchase of an alternative fuel Public Works vehicle and the second $30,000 grant will go toward a an electric vehicle charging station.

MSRC developed the Local Government Match grant program to assist in funding alternative fuel vehicles and alternative fuel infrastructure projects. Matching funds for the two grants are not coming from the City’s general fund, but from other state and federal sources and green tech partnerships.
A third grant is being considered by MSRC that could help offset the cost of Cathedral City’s street sweeping program at its June 2012 meeting.

"These funds allow us to spread our thin resources even further and highlight the great work our local city staff does in finding other revenues," said Cathedral City Council Member Greg Pettis, who serves as Vice-Chair of MSRC.
