Cove Improvement District Phase 2 Update

SEWER WORK

Sewer installation is in process on the following streets and will continue through September. Notices have been sent to the property owners.

  • "A" Street
  • Bankside Drive (south of Tahquitz Road)
  • "C" Street
  • Cove Lane
  • Grandview (between Dorn and Vista)
  • Kings Road (between Melrose Ave. and Bankside Dr.)
  • Melrose Avenue

Note: Streets are generally open to local traffic. Businesses are open during construction; however, there may be certain hours/days when access is restricted. Contractor will provide detours and alternative access as needed.

STORM DRAIN WORK:

  • 1. West Buddy Rogers Aves. (City Hall Area): Storm drain work is in process. (See Storm Drain Exhibit below) The work will be done in segments to allow for the best possible traffic circulation. Detours will be in place as needed for this work.
    • The storm drain will cross underneath East Palm Canyon Dr. (EPC) using a "jack and boring" method that will push the storm drain under EPC to the south side of West Buddy Rogers.

Note: EPC will remain open; however, there may be intermittent reduced traffic lanes in work area.

Project Notes:

  • Cove Phase 2 work includes sewer, street, storm drain and water line construction.
  • The project started in June 2008 and will be done in an approximate two-year period.
  • The General Contractor hired by Cathedral City for the Cove project is Sukut Construction, Inc., from Santa Ana, California.
  • The City sends letters out to property owners prior to work on their street and Sukut provides door hanger notices to affected properties prior to construction.
  • Cove residents may see construction workers in areas throughout the Phase 2. This could be related to utility location work, surveying, material testing, inspection and field conditions resulting in unplanned work activity.
  • Regular Construction work hours are from 6:00 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. Note: Certain types of operations may require later work hours.
  • Most streets under construction are open for resident and business access; trenches are backfilled and specific areas under construction will generally be open for access after the workers are done each day.
  • Drivers in the Cove Phase 2 areas should be cautious and reduce speed in construction areas and follow all detour signs.
The information provided is the best available for scheduled work.
  • This information is also available at www.cathedralcity.gov/cove.
  • Residents can call the Cove Helpline at 760-250-8673 or email cove@cathedralcity.gov for project information.
