TRAFFIC PROJECTS

CURRENT STATUS (as of March 1, 2006)

Liaison to Transportation Commission- ongoing Commission meets bi-monthly on 3rd Thursdays in 2006: (1/19, 3/16, 5/18, 7/20, 9/21, 11/16)

Commissioners: Jim Navarro-Chair, Harold Blumberg-VC, William Baker, Rosalina Nava, Art Gregoire

Coordinate Traffic & Signal Operations- ongoing Coordinate Republic Electric Contract. Administer Hui Lai & Wayne Walker contracts

Coordinate Traffic issues with Chief Stan Henry, Capt. Kevin Conner and Lt. Chuck Robinson

Removal of Downtown EPC Left-Turn Arrows

(Based on Hui Lai Study “A” approved by Council 2/23/05)

Arrows removed on 9/1/05. 90-day test completed 11/30/05.  Council presentation 1/25/06

Travel time downtown reduced from 4 to 1.5 minutes, Speed increased from 23 to 40 mph, Level “C” Service

E. Palm Canyon Future Route Alternatives

(Hui Lai Study “B” approved by Council 2/23/05)

Officer David Vasquez Rd. initially chosen as future relief route to Downtown E. P. Canyon

11/17/05 T. Commission approved ODV Route, Special Joint Council/Commission Mtgs: 1/12 & 2/16/06

Red-Light Camera at Date Palm & Ramon

(Assist w/ Police Dept. Project approved by Council 5/25/05)

Northbound Date Palm at Ramon (Initial first red-light camera system in Cathedral City)

American Traffic Solutions-(ATS) installed on 2/1/06- 30 day warning. Commenced Citations on 3/01/06)

Breslow “Sunflower Safety Signs” Demonstration

Council approved 40 initial signs/10 intersections on 10/26/05

Marc & Patti Breslow volunteered to fund pilot program for creative traffic safety messages

Signs mount on ”back” of residential street stop signs. They will pay for first 80 signs. Council to review 3/22/06

 City-Wide Street Striping Update Program

(Budgeted by Council at $94,000 in FY 2005/06)

Goal: Replace Street Striping on Major, Secondary & Collectors (Residential if possible)

Wayne Walker completing inventory & cost estimates to determine how many priority roads can be restriped

ASSESSMENT DISTRICTS

Existing Annual Landscape & Lighting Districts

(Fourteen existing LLDs)

Oversee MuniFinancial’s Annual Consulting Assessment Engineering Contract

Prepare Council Report  in June/July to approve Assessments for FY 06/07 County Tax Roll

Corregidor Drive Street Improvement District

(18 Homes on cul-de-sac north of Converse Road)

Proposed street improvements: New paving, curbs, drive approaches, sidewalks

Initial property owner mtg. on 10/19/05 resulted in 17 of 18 owners signing petition. I’m doing cost estimates

Proposed Perez Road Sewer District

(Perez Rd.; Plaza Dr.; Summit Dr.; Campbell St., Kieley Rd) 

One of the remaining non-sewered areas in the City

Gathering property owner, address & APN info to put together mailings for initial property owner meetings.
