Arson Awareness Week is May 4 - 10

“The Cathedral City Fire Dept, in partnership with the Palm Springs Fire Department and Riverside County Fire Department, is spreading the word that May 4-10 is Arson Awareness Week. The theme for this year’s Arson Awareness Week is “Toylike Lighters: Playing with Fire.”

Toylike or novelty lighters have been responsible for injuries, deaths, and accidents across the Nation. Children are attracted to novelty lighters because they look like toys, with visual effects, flashing lights, musical sounds, and toylike designs.

In 2002, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) estimated 13,900 child-playing structure fires were reported in the U.S., with associated losses of 210 civilian deaths, 1,250 civilian injuries, and $339 million in direct damage.”

Saturdays @Canyon Plaza South opens this Saturday, May 3, 7:30am-2:30pm.

Wessman Development and retailers from both the Canyon Plaza North and Canyon Plaza South shopping centers will premiere their new “Saturdays @ Canyon Plaza South”, an outdoor shopping extravaganza and farmer’s market this Saturday, May 3, 7:30am-2:30pm. Admission and parking are free. .

It will be a weekly event featuring upscale outdoor bazaar and farmer market, opening with 40 vendors with the potential of growing to 125 vendors with unique and unusual items: art, antiques, clothing, crafts fabrics, fresh organic produce, beverages and much more. Furnishings, home goods, jewelry, liquidations, mid-century, modern, and estate items are also planned. Vendors are both local and from outside the area.
