Third “North City” Community Meeting February 12th

The third of four community meetings on the development of the North City Specific Plan (NCSP) will be Tuesday, February 12th, at 6:30 PM in the Study Session Conference Room on the first floor of City Hall at 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero.

At the December meeting, Citizens had the opportunity to comment on two proposed land use concepts. The Arroyo Group, the consulting firm assisting the City in developing the NCSP has taken the community feedback received on the two proposed concepts to create a refined preferred land use concept for further comment.

The NCSP includes preferred land use concepts for commercial, mixed use, residential, destination attraction areas. Citizen and business input is critical as the City plans for the future development of the approximately 5,000 acres of mostly undeveloped land north of Interstate -10.

You can find more information on the NCSP at www.cathedralcity.gov/ncsp.

Plans for Harbor Freight Approved

Plans for a new Harbor Freight store to be located just south of the Burlington Coat building on Date Palm Drive have been approved by the City. The developers can now pull there permits and break ground on the project.

Harbor Freight is one of the nation’s largest sellers of tools – from milling machines to pocket toolkits, with retail stores in over 40 states.

Dance Program Performance this Saturday

The Dance Program, a long-standing recreation program in Cathedral City, will have its annual recital fundraising performance in Town Square, Jan. 26, 1-3pm. CATHEDRAL CANYON DRIVE INFORMATION
Sewer and Street work is on schedule with exception of Cathedral Canyon Drive based upon information below:

The City is on schedule with the sewer project and the contractor has completed the sewer installation on Cathedral Canyon Drive. Cathedral Canyon Drive has been closed to thru-traffic as preparation has been made to install a storm drain system on this street.

However, the storm drain system – not being paid for by the Cove Improvement Assessment District – had to be redesigned, which has caused a delay. The utility lines were not shown in the right locations on official maps, often times shallower than indicated. Once identified, the true locations required a different style of pipe and catch basins on Cathedral Canyon Drive, Palo Verde Drive and Tahquitz Road.

Because storm drain pipes are made at the factory specifically for each job, additional time was needed to fill the storm drain pipe order for the redesign work.

The pipe is now on-site and being used to construct the storm drain system on Palo Verde Drive and Tahquitz Road.

Once the storm drain pipe is installed and the catch basins built, street construction on Cathedral Canyon Drive will resume with the installation of curb and gutter, drive approaches, cross gutters and spandrels. After these items are completed, Cathedral Canyon Drive will be graded and it will be paved.

It is estimated that the storm drain work will be finished and Cathedral Canyon Drive will be paved early in 2008. The sewer and street work on all other areas of the Cove project are progressing per the project schedule and the Cove Phase 2 work will start early in 2008 as planned.
