Community Assistance Applications Available Online

Applications are now available for Cathedral City’s Community Assistance Program. To be eligible for assistance, the applicant must be a community-based, non-profit social organization, or area service provider that offers a program or service that benefits the residents and/or businesses of Cathedral City. In addition, the organization must either be a non-profit entity organized under the model Non-Profit Corporation Act and designated as an exempted organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c), or be a joint powers authority that provides a service which would otherwise be provided by the City of Cathedral City.

You can download a copy of the application and full instructions for Fiscal Year 2008-2009 from the City’s website at www.cathedralcity.gov in the “What’s New” Section. To be eligible for consideration for assistance, the application and all applicable supplementary information must be submitted no later than 5 PM, March10, 2008.

Last year funding was granted to the Cathedral City High School Bands, Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, Court Appointed Special Advocate of Riverside County, Cathedral City Senior Center, Desert Cancer Foundation, Desert Samaritans for the Elderly, Gilda’s Club, Golden Rainbow Center, Riverside County for Aging, Shelter from the Storm, The Smile Factory, Stroke Recovery Center and Working Wonders.

Recreational Services Guide Available

The Cathedral City Parks and Recreation Commission is an outgrowth of the Cathedral City Parks and Recreation Master Plan and features recreational opportunities for all ages, from organizations as diverse as the Cathedral City Senior Center to the American Youth Soccer Organization, and activities from miniature golf to martial arts. “Night at the Opera” this Friday

The Cathedral City Public Arts Commission and the Palm Springs Opera Guild join together to present a free “Night at the Opera” at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in the Cathedral City High School Auditorium.

The musical event will feature arias from Ariadne Auf Naxos, Mefistoffle, Manon, Carmen, Les Contes D’Hoffmann, Faust, Giulio Cesare, Tosca and others.

Four singers and a pianist will perform. Combined, they have appeared at the Sydney Opera House, the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, and with the Los Angles Opera, the Minnesota Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, and have studied and performed throughout the world.

The performance marks the third in a series being presented this season by the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission. Major sponsors for the series are NAI Consulting, offering engineering services and project management services for municipalities, and the Community Foundation, serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Other sponsors are Harris & Associates, Granite Construction, Choctaw Construction, Total Marketing Partners, James R. Peters Construction Management & Inspection and MSA Consulting.

The next concert in the Live Arts series will be “Lezlie Anders and Buddy Greco Meet the Cathedral City High School Jazz Band,” February 1, 2008 at 7 PM at the Mary Pickford Theatre. This will a be a real a rare chance to see the legendary jazz musician perform with young and up and coming jazz talent from Cathedral City.

The City Engineer will continue to approve connections in the Cove Phase 1 project every few weeks. Letters are mailed to property owners as Desert Water Agency and the City Engineer accept and approve the sewers for connection.

CITY HOUSING DEPARTMENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE:
Property owners, who also occupy their home in the Cove neighborhood, may qualify for financial assistance for the connection process from Cathedral City Redevelopment Agency Affordable Housing funds. Please call the City’s Housing Department at 760-770-0376 for more information.

MORONGO CREEK BLOW SAND ABATEMENT/PM 10
MITIGATION WITHIN THE CITY OF CATHEDRAL CITY
UPDATE Week of January 7, 2008

The Contractor has begun excavating behind the Ventura Road residents. This operation is scheduled to for approximately 2 weeks pending inclement weather. In addition, the proposed site for the honey mesquite trees are also being prepared for irrigation and planting.

Please be aware that this site will be updated weekly for additional information.
