“North City” Specific Plan

Cathedral City has issued a Request for Proposals for multi-disciplinary consulting teams to assist the City in creating a Specific Plan for the approximately 4,700 acres north of Interstate 10. The Specific plan will assist in streamlining the permitting process for future development by establishing land use guidelines and infrastructure requirements in the project area.

The 4,700 acre project area – “North City” – is the last large, undeveloped area in Cathedral City. The Specific Plan will help to ensure this blank canvass is put to its best use through a comprehensive planning effort.

Preparation of the Specific Plan will include opportunities for community participation and the Plan will be compatible with the proposed Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (MSHCP).

The City anticipates awarding the consultant contract in May, with the project to begin in June. The Specific Plan is estimated to take approximately twelve to sixteen months to complete. Log onto www.cathedralcity.gov/northcitysp for more information.

Joint Meeting of City Council and Parks & Recreation Commission

There will be a joint meeting of the City Counsel and Parks & Recreation Commission at the Cathedral City Library Community Room, Wednesday March 20th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The Commission will share it’s goals for continuing to implement the Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The public is invited to attend. The library is located at 33520 Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City.

The Saga of Kitty Kitty

Yesterday, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services coordinated a rescue mission for a cat, Kitty Kitty, who had climbed high into a cypress tree in Riverside. Animal Services hired a tree climber (a 70 year old man who has climbed trees all his life) to rescue Kitty Kitty who was stuck some 50 fight high in the tree. Normally the fire department is called in, but the tree is located in a back yard where their ladder equipment can’t reach it.

Alas, Kitty Kitty mistook his rescuer’s intentions and climbed even higher and deeper into the cypress. Plan B is to place a cat “trap” in the tree with a can of wet food as bait. Then the tree climber will bring down the “trap.” Kitty Kitty’s guardian has been watching him through her binoculars and is very concerned. Kitty Kitty has been communicating to her that he made a big time boo-boo and wants to come home, now!

Stay tuned next week for the gripping end of this tale – indeed a tail may need to be gripped to effect a happy ending.
