Cathedral City Fire
Department Dedicates New Fire Truck
The
Cathedral City Fire Department hosted a truck dedication at 10am, Friday,
December 7th at its Fire Administration Headquarters, Station 412. The
department unveiled its new Tractor Drawn Aerial Ladder (TDA), and paid
special tribute to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians for its many
years of support through SB621 grant funding.
SB621 creates the Indian Gaming Revenue Sharing Trust
Fund and the Indian Gaming Special Distribution Fund within the General Fund
for the receipt and distribution of funds from gaming compacts.
The TDA is an American LaFrance truck featuring a 100’
foot aerial ladder, emitting 1,000 gallons per minute (gpm) from the ladder
tip. The TDA is equipped with a 300 gallon tank and a 1,500 gpm pump. The
TDA will be stocked with Advanced Life Support equipment and has wide-range
response capabilities from medical emergencies to large scale structure
fires. The TDA would prove invaluable in responding to high rise structure
fires within the City’s mutual aid area, as needed. The truck will
officially be placed in service immediately following the dedication event.
The purchase and build out of the TDA has been in the
process for over a year, with a four-person committee overseeing the
construction phases. The TDA was delivered to the Cathedral City Fire
Department in September.
Funding support for the truck purchase was made possible
by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians through grants totaling
$486,271; $250,000 was committed to providing personnel and training for the
TDA, and $236,271 towards the purchase of the apparatus itself. The purchase
balance of $636,268 was provided by the City of Cathedral City.
Throughout the years, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla
Indians has assisted the Cathedral City Fire Department with the purchase of
an Engine, an ALS ambulance, personal protective equipment (including self
contained breathing apparatus), and fitness equipment. The Cathedral City
Fire Department is grateful to the Tribe for its generous support, and
values the relationship between the two groups.
