Second North City
Specific Plan Community Workshop December 17th
The second of three Community Workshops for the North
City Specific Plan (NCSP) will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007 from
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Study Session Room at City Hall, 68-700 Avenida
Lalo Guerrero. All residents, property owners, business owners and community
leaders and other interested parties are encouraged to participate.
With increasing population growth in the Coachella Valley
and competing pressures on the vacant land along Interstate 10 corridor, now
is the time to plan for future development and public improvements in the
northern portion of Cathedral City. The NCSP is important to the City and
its residents because it will take a long-term view of what land uses are
appropriate for this area and establish a vision and implementation strategy
for the future.
The purpose of the December 17th Workshop is to present
two conceptual Specific Plan alternatives. Participants will have an
opportunity to discuss the proposed alternatives, as well as suggest
modifications to the various aspects of both alternatives. Input received at
this Workshop will be used to arrive at preferred land uses for North City,
around which the Specific Plan will be framed.
At the first Community Workshop, participants discussed
how best to plan for the nearly 5,000 acres of vacant land in the northern
part of the City, and identified opportunities and constraints for the area.
This input was used to develop the two conceptual land use alternatives that
will be discussed at the December meeting.

Musical Event Dec. 16
A free holiday performance for the entire family will be
held at the Cathedral City Library Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m.
The multi-cultural event will feature music, stories,
history lessons and even a sing-along, celebrating the holidays enjoyed by
different cultural and ethnic groups from around the world. It will provide
an enlightening and entertaining holiday treat, according to Andy Eisenmann,
program chair.
The concert is the second in a series being presented by
the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission.
“Take a break from the hectic rush of the holidays and
relax at this one-hour performance that will lift your spirits and provide
an educational peek into how different cultures observe the season,” says
Jerry Hirschmann, chair of the Commission.
The musical event will feature Bruce Mangum at the piano,
Jennifer Dean on flute, Don Stein singing baritone, music students from
local schools, Eisemannn on recorder and Marcia Wrisley as the speaker.
During the performance, the audience will learn about the
history of carols, the history of Christmas, Chanukah and the Hindu Festival
of Lights. Music will be played and sung in the original languages,
Eisenmann explained.
Major sponsors of the concert series are the Community
Foundation serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and NAI Consulting,
offering project management and engineering services for municipalities.
The January concert will be “A Night at the Opera” at 7

Blow Sand Abatement
Morongo Creek blow sand abatement/PM 10 mitigation within
Cathedral City. The contractor has hooked up the water line equipment to
begin pre-watering the area directly behind the Ventura Road residents. This
will minimize the dust generated during the blow sand removal scheduled for
early December. In addition, the proposed site for the noney mesquite trees
are also being pre-watered for the same reason. Update for this project will
be included in these weekly briefs.
