More Streets Cleared for Hookup

On Monday, October 29, City Engineer Bill Bayne and the Desert Water Agency (DWA) approved Chuperosa Lane, Sharpless Road, Nightingale Road and Las Tunas Way for sewer connection in the Cove.

Once proof that DWA fees have been paid is received, the City can issue a hookup permit on these and previously approved streets. The Building Department has a list of all of the Cove property owners showing whether or not they have already paid the DWA fee.

The City Engineer and DWA will continue to approve sewer connections for the Cove project every few weeks. I will email you as soon as additional streets are approved for connection and the letters have been mailed to the property owners.

In Dream Homes every home in the neighborhood can now connect!

Fountain of Life Closed for Repair

The Fountain of Life in Town Square has been closed to repair the soft surface around it. The fountain was designed to be interactive. Children (of all ages) play and cool off in the fountain throughout the hot summer months. The soft surface asks as a sort of cushion softening the ground. The fountain will be closed for most of November.

Businesses Off and Running

The Burlington Coat Factory, 99 cent Store, and Sonic Burger have all recently opened their doors for business bringing more shopping and eating experiences to Cathedral City and generating much needed sales tax. Stay tuned for more new businesses opening here in Cathedral City.

Public Workshop to Revise Housing Element of General Plan Next Monday

The City will hold a community workshop as it begins to update the Housing Element of its General Plan. The workshop, which is open to the public, will be held Monday, November 5, 2007 at 6 PM at the Cathedral City Hall Study Session Room (68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero).

The Housing Element of the General Plan is the City’s roadmap for meeting its housing needs. The updated Housing Element must demonstrate that the City is prepared to accommodate the development of its “fair share” of the region’s future housing needs (over the 7-year period between 2006 and 2014). In the case of Cathedral City, the housing element will need to show that the City is prepared to accommodate the development of 3,329 new homes and that at least 1,324 of these be affordable to lower income households.

The City has contracted with Terra Nova Planning and Research to prepare the update of the Housing Element, which, by state law, must be written and approved by July 1st 2008. Cathedral City seeks public input on ways to meet its fair share of the future housing needs in the Coachella Valley.
