Fire Department Events This Weekend

The Cathedral City Fire Department, in cooperation with the Community Blood Bank is sponsoring a Blood Drive on Sat. Oct. 13th, 8:30am-12:30pm. The Blood Drive is just one of the many activities featured at the Cathedral City Fire Department’s Annual Open House and Pancake Breakfast at the Fire Administration Building, 32-100 Desert Vista Rd., Cathedral City. Appointments for blood donations are now being accepted. Call Sandra at 770-8210 to schedule an appointment. All donors receive a 2-For-1 pass to The Living Desert Reserve in Palm Desert.

The Cathedral City Fire Department’s 19th Annual Open House and Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Sat. Oct. 13, 8am-11am, at the Fire Administration Building, 32-100 Desert Vista Rd. The event culminates the nation-wide observance of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13. Pancake breakfast tickets: Adults - $5; Children - $3 (ages 12 & under). All proceeds benefit the Cathedral City Firefighters Benevolence Fund.

North City Specific Plan Online

If you were unable to attend the first public workshop on developing the North City Specific Plan (NCSP) you can go the Cathedral City NCSP website at www.cathedralcity.gov/ncsp to learn more about this important planning project. If you click reports and documents you can see the opportunities and challenges presentation prepared by the Arroyo Group, the lead consultants on the planning project. You can also find various maps of the area north of I-10 and other interesting information. Click the “contact us” button if you want to share your comments. The next public workshop will be Monday, December 17th – time and place to be determined. The topic will be conceptual specific plan alternatives.

One World Rhythm
Wednesday, October 24 at 6:00 pm

Have fun and make music at this exciting family event with One World Rhythm. Everyone will experience creative music making with this one-of-a-kind percussion group. This program is the fourth in our “Books Come Alive!” series. Each child will receive a free book at the event! Watch for more programs in this series every month. “Books Come Alive!” is funded by a grant from the Anderson Children’s Foundation.

Join us for our 3rd Annual Pumpkin Day! We will have pumpkin decorating, lots of crafts, candy, and a costume contest! Come to the library in your Halloween costume, and join us for an afternoon of pumpkin fun! FREE! Ages 3-12

Local Business Supports Breast Cancer Month

Hi-Lites Aveda Salon & Spa and Gilda’s Club in Cathedral City are taking a community leadership role in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, including a donation money pull for services at the salon, a gift sponsorship for cancer patients, a Hi-Lites discount card for touring the Gilda’s Club facility at 67625 East Palm Canyon, and “wig wash” for cancer survivors on October 20th (need to prepared to leave wig for a week). The City Engineer will continue to approve connections in the Cove Phase 1 project every few weeks. Letters will be mailed to those property owners as Desert Water Agency and the City Engineer accept and approve the sewers for connection.

Property owners, who also occupy their home in the Cove neighborhood, may qualify for financial assistance for the connection process from Cathedral City Redevelopment Agency Affordable Housing funds. Call 760-770-0376 for more information.

WORK SCHEDULED WEEK OF 10/8/07:

The list below represents the best available information for work scheduled during the upcoming week of 10/8/07. The contractor regularly provides door hanger notices prior to work being done to individual residents on streets where construction is planned.

Please Note:
Cove residents may see construction workers in areas throughout the Phase 1 Cove project that are not shown on the list below. This work could be related to surveying, material testing, inspection, contractor punch-list items, and field conditions resulting in unplanned work activity.

SEWER WORK IN PROCESS

Continuing work on Bankside Drive, Commercial Road, Sunair Plaza for sewer mainline, laterals, and manholes.

Continuing work on Palo Verde Drive between E. Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Road for sewer mainline, laterals, and manholes.

Please note that sewer main construction will be done in the commercial areas north of East Palm Canyon on Bankside Drive, Commercial Road, Cathedral Canyon Drive, Sunair Plaza and the properties on East Palm Canyon served by the alley behind them.

****There will “No Streetside Parking” allowed on Commercial Road from Sunair Plaza to Bankside Drive starting on Monday, October 4 from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. *****

“No Parking” signs will be posted. Please have cars at your location park on your property during these times. Businesses and property owners are encouraged to use the City Hall parking structure for parking if on-site parking is not adequate.
