Less Than a Month to Fountainworks

Fountainworks is just around the corner! The event sponsors are also beginning to line up: Stone and Youngberg Asset Management, The Printing Place, Power Baseball Palm Springs, and the Cathedral City Auto Center all are helping to make the event a success. More sponsors are forthcoming.

Fountainworks is July 3rd at 7 PM. Come hear the 29 Palms Marine Corps Band as it kicks off the evening, followed by the high-energy group SPLASH! who will do three forty-five minute sets of Las Vegas style entertainment. There’s great food available, too, at great prices. Bring a blanket or a chair and kick off the Independence Day Holiday at Cathedral City’s Town Square. There’s plenty of covered free parking. Admission is free.

Conveniently, the Next Shredding Event is July 3rd, Too!

Make a Day of it at Cathedral City Town Square. Although there usually isn’t a summer Shredding Event, a special shredding/energy conservation event for Cathedral City residents will take place Tuesday, July 3rd from 5 PM to 7 PM in the parking lot adjacent to the Desert IMAX Theatre. The First 500 Cathedral City Residents in attendance will receive a free “Efficiency First” Pack compliments of Community Energy Partnership. The pack is filled with energy and money saving tips and tools, including a free compact florescent light bulb (CFL) and faucet aerator. Show up Early! And then stay for Fountainworks fun!

High School Students Honored with Street Names this Thursday

Three Cathedral City students will have streets named in their honor for academic achievement this Thursday, June 7th

Mount San Jacinto senior Krystal Gonzalez will be honored at 8am, when a street sign named after her is unveiled at the corner of Landau Blvd. and McCallum Way. Gonzalez, active in the school’s Associated Student Body, achieved her academic goals, and will attend College of the Desert in the fall.

Roxanna Gonzalez, Cathedral City High School senior, was recently named the winner of the school’s prestigious Golden Lion Award, Roxanna has an impressive resume that includes 2007 California Scholastic Federation Seal Bearer and Life Member, a listing in the “Who’s Who Among High School Students”, and earned top honors in Math, English, Science, Social Studies and, Counseling. Gonzalez will be honored at 9am at the corner of Date Palm Dr. and Sen. Dave Kelly Rd.

Calvary Christian High School senior Brandon Sanders will be honored with his street naming at 10am. Sanders has enrolled in summer session at College of the Desert, with plans to pursue a degree in multi-media productions from Platt College in the fall. A three year member of the National Honor Society, as well as, the co-captain of the basketball team, Brandon has invested more than 1000 hours of community service during his fours of high school.

The City of Cathedral City congratulates these three students for the academic and community service achievements, and to all graduating seniors for their accomplishments.

Fraud Alert!

There have been reports of con artists posing as Health Agency and/or Government Representatives in lower income Cathedral City neighborhoods who are approaching seniors and disabled persons and offering to provide them with medical services, wheelchairs, housekeeping and other services. In return, they ask for personal information such as a social security number, identification or driver’s license number, medical insurance, medical insurance card number and even bank account numbers. Just say, “No!” Then call local law enforcement immediately. Call 760-770-0300 for the Cathedral City Police Department. This information is attached in Spanish to this edition of News Briefs.
