City has Vacancies on Six Commissions

Cathedral City has openings on six of its commissions/committees:

Architectural Review Committee (meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 3:00 p.m.

Parks and Recreation Commission (meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

bullet

Planning Commission (meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.)

bullet

Public Arts Commission (meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 5 p.m.)

bullet

Streets and Transportation Commission (meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

bullet

Marketing Committee (meets the third Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m.)

All of the vacancies above, except the Architectural Review Committee, Public Arts Commission and Marketing Committee require members to be Cathedral City residents.

Serving on City commissions and committees is a way to serve your community, participate in local government, and to help make a better Cathedral City.

For more information you can call the Office of the City Clerk at 760-770-0385 or you can visit the City Clerk’s website at www.cathedralcity.gov/CityClerk/cityclerk.htm and download an application form. Applications need to be submitted as soon as possible. Interviews will be conducted before the City Council meeting on Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 during the Study Session of the City Council. Appointments will be made and publicly announced during the evening session.

Soccer Park and Fitness Track set for June 2

The dedication of the Soccer Park and Fitness Track will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 2nd. This won’t be you standard stuffy dedication. Although details are still being finalized, the James Workman School Band and Chorus are slated to perform, and the Cathedral City High School Color Guard and the American Youth Soccer Organization will have activities for soccer enthusiasts. The Cathedral City Park is located at 30th Ave at Santoro Drive.

FUN WITH OPERA! at the Cathedral City Library

This exciting performance will provide young people with a knowledge of opera and its most basic components, with musical examples drawn from the world’s most popular operatic works. The “Fun With Opera!” program uses humor and audience interaction to foster an appreciation for opera and music. Presented by Opera Pacific of Santa Ana, CA. FREE!

Coachella Valley Health and Safety Fair This Weekend

This free event will feature demonstrations and displays of specialized emergency equipment from local area first responder and other health and safety experts. There will be an earthquake simulation “Quake Cottage,” community blood bank, free CPR training, vehicle extraction demo, mounted posse, helicopter and bomb robot. For children there will be a “Kids Court” with bounce house, magician, fingerprinting, balloons and coloring books. The Cathedral City Fire Department will provide blood pressure checks at the upcoming Coachella Valley Health and Safety Fair, May 12th from 9AM – 1PM at the College of the Desert (43-500 Monterey Ave, Palm Desert). City looking for Vendors for Fountainworks

It’s an “open call” to all food, beverage and retail vendors for the City’s annual Fountainworks Festival 2008 on July 3rd, 7-11pm in Town Square.

Fountainworks Festival 2008 will feature the Las Vegas-style group SPLASH! featured performers for the Grammy and Academy Award after-parties. Also the U.S. Marine Corps Band from Twenty-Nine Palms will play at the event to add to the patriotic spirit.

Interested vendors and businesses need contact Lynn Mallotto, Special Events Coordinator for the City of Cathedral City, at 770-0346 by Monday, May 14th or e-mail her at lmallotto@cathedralcity.gov for a vendor application.

The list below represents the best available information for work scheduled during the upcoming week of 5/7/07. The contractor regularly provides door hanger notices prior to work being done to individual residents on streets where construction is planned.

Please Note:
Cove residents may see construction workers in areas throughout the Phase 1 Cove project that are not shown on the list below. This work could be related to surveying, material testing, inspection, contractor punch-list items, and field conditions resulting in unplanned work activity.

Asphalt Paving
Asphalt paving is complete on D Street, E Street, Encelia Lane, F Street, San Jacinto Road (west of Van Fleet), H Street, Iroquois Street, J Street, Van Fleet Avenue, Glenn Avenue, Bel Air Drive (Terrace to Grandview), Mountain View, Desert View, Chuperosa Lane ( from Nightingale Road south to Dorn Drive), Las Tunas Way, and Nightingale Road.

The Contractor will be raising sewer manholes, water valves, compacting parkways, and completing miscellaneous tasks on the above mentioned streets.

Curb & Gutter
Curb and gutter work will occur beginning May 8th for Dorn Drive, Indigo Lane, Treasure Trail, and Moonlight Drive.

Residents are advised to park cars on an adjacent street at night or in their driveway and move their car early in the morning, as needed. When curbs and driveway areas are installed on a street, the contractor provides notice that residents should not park or drive on the new curbs or driveway approach for up to 14 days for the concrete to cure. After this time, residents can park as usual.

Upcoming Sewer & Water Construction for Week of 5-7-07:

Sewer work:
No sewer work will take place this week.

Water work:
Waterlines will be installed on San Gabriel Circle and Santa Barbara between San Luis Rey and San Antonio

Paving:
Trench repair will take place on San Luis Rey between Ramon and Mission. Thru traffic will be permitted.

Curb Restoration:
Curb restoration will continue in phase one and two until all sewer clean-out lids and water meters have been installed

***IMPORTANT NOTES***
Connection to the sewer will not be allowed FOR ANY AREA until streets are base paved, manholes raised to base grade and lids are installed on sewer clean-outs. Notice will be given to property owners by the City and Water Agency when that time arrives.
