Cathedral City Police and Fire Receive Donations

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians gave donations to both The Cathedral City Fire and Police Departments. The Fire department received a $100,000 donation – the largest single donation awarded this year. The donation has been earmarked to replace self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) throughout the department. The department will purchase 40 SCBA units that include Pak Tracker firefighter tracking locators, Talk Around communication systems, three Rapid Intervention Paks and three Pak Tracker locator handheld receivers – one for each front line engine. Purchasing these new SCBA’s will ensure each firefighter has updated safety equipment, replacing aging models.

The Police Department received donations totaling $52,000: $5,000 for the Citizens on Patrol program, $5,000 for the K-9 program, $2,500 for the Explorer Post, $5,000 for the Reserve Officers program, $5,000 for off-road vehicle enforcement, $10,000 for the SWAT team, and $ 20,000 for the department’s Character Counts program – a youth oriented character education program that is based on basic values, called the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Both departments extend their gratitude to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians for its generous gifts.

SPLASH to Perform at Fountainworks

Cathedral City’s signature event, Fountainworks, will be held July 3rd in Town Square – not all that far in the future. The Marketing Committee selected SPLASH to be the main entertainment for the event. The group is made up of 10 musicians including three female and one male vocalist. Billed as glitzy, high energy entertainment the group has been featured at the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas and played for the official Academy Awards, Grammy and Super Bowl parties. They are also a Disney favorite. SPLASH performs a variety of styles of music that will appeal to a broad audience.

The Marketing Committee is looking for Fountainworks sponsors that will both let local businesses be recognized at this positive event and help defray the cost of the event. Sponsor levels are $500, $1,000, and $2,000 all with significant acknowledgement. There is also a $7,500 key sponsorship level. If you know of any businesses who might like to sponsor Fountainworks please contact Allen Howe at 770-0396.

Also the City is looking for beverage, food, ice cream and other vendors for the event. Contact Lynn Mallotto for a vendor application at 770-0346.

Earth Day began in 1970 to inspire awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s environment.

Think of this Earth Day as being the start of “Earth Year” – practice the” Four R’s”: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Responsibility. Respect and take care of our world!

To learn more about what you as a Cathedral City resident can do to recycle, or for information on free programs offered by the City, contact the City’s Environmental Conservation Manager at 760.770.0369
