Electronic Waste Collection for Cathedral City Residents

There will be an electronic waste collection event for residents and businesses located in Cathedral City this Saturday, April 7, 2007 from 9 AM until 12 PM in the front parking lot of Lowe’s Home Improvement Center in Palm Springs (5201 E. Ramon Road). Bring your computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, telephones and cell phones, answering machines, fax machines, televisions and microwaves. The electronic material is dismantled and recycled. Any information stored on hard drives or cell phones is destroyed during the processing phase.

You no longer have to wait for our April and November electronic waste collection events. Every Tuesday from 1 PM – 3PM the Cathedral City Public Works Yard (68-385 Kieley Rd.) will accept electronic waste from Cathedral City Residents.

The next Stop Identity Theft shredding event will be Saturday May 5 from 9 AM to 12 PM next to the Desert IMAX Theatre.

Energy Conservation Fair

Come visit the Coachella Valley’s first Energy Conservation Fair on Earth Day Weekend (April 21st and 22nd) at the College of the Desert (43500 Monterey in Palm Desert) adjacent to the Street Fair.

Take advantage of energy saving programs and services such as energy efficient products and incentives, energy star appliance rebates, low-income programs, home energy saving tips, residential energy retrofits, PV solar demonstrations, sustainable construction products and alternative fuel vehicles. The event is a community partnership of the Coachella Valley Association of Governments with Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, and the Building Industry Association. Call 760-346-1127 for more information.

Next Public Arts Concert April 29

The last of this year’s Public Arts Commission “Live Arts” concerts will be at the Cathedral City Library Community Room on Sunday, April 9th, at 3 PM. Cathedral City’s own chamber ensemble, Canyon Classics, will present a program entitled “April in Paris – music by favorite 19th and 20th century French composers.” The ensemble consists of a flute, violin, clarinet and piano (played by the humble writer of these news briefs). The concert will consist of music by Ravel, Debussy, Poulenc, Massenet and Saint-Saëns.

A special performance, just for children, of “The Story of Babar the Little Elephant” for narrator and piano with music by Poulenc will be given at 1:30 PM the same day in the community room. The half-hour work, based on the first book of the Babar children’s series by Jean de Brunhoff, will also be performed as part of the main concert at 3 PM for the general public. The concert is made possible in part by a grant from the Riverside Community Foundation.
