Community Meeting Scheduled for November 29, 2006

The City of Cathedral City and Dream Homes ICUC have planned a community meeting to inform residents and property owners in the Dream Homes neighborhood about upcoming sewer, street, and water construction. The meeting will take place at the Agua Caliente Elementary School on Wednesday, November, 29 at 6:00 p.m. Topics for discussion will include: construction hours, lines of communication, trash pick-up, parking, a groundbreaking ceremony, sewer lateral staking, City assistance programs, and most importantly, SAFETY ISSUES!

Representatives from Desert Water Agency, Choctaw Contractors, and the City will be available to answer questions and advise residents of the details. Spanish translation will be provided. Please contact Mitch Nieman, City Project Manager, at 760-770-0348 for further details.

City Hall Closed Thursday and Friday

City Hall will be closed this Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

December 15th Holiday Concert

The 45-piece Desert Cities Pops Band will give a free Holiday concert at the Cathedral City High School Auditorium on December 15th at 7 p.m., part of the Public Arts Commission, Live Arts Series. The band is directed by Will Schaefer, former music director and composer for Walt Disney Television. Holiday Music and Americana is the theme of the 80-minute concert which will featuring the anchor piece, “The Sound of America,” nominated for a 1976 Pulitzer Prize, and narrated by Gloria Greer and Cash Baxter, a holiday medley, Light Cavalry Overture, Bugler’s Holiday and other selections. The concert is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Riverside Community Foundation. There is plenty of free parking.

Electronic Waste Event a Success

Last Saturday’s electronic waste event in the Lowe’s parking lot was another huge success. About 700 cars brought e-waste to be recycled and filled up three semis with electronics.

The next Shredding Event is Monday January 15th 9am until Noon – Community Service Day Event – here at Town Square.

Help Feed the Homeless during the Holidays

Food in Need of Distribution (FIND) has collection barrels at the front counter of City Hall for donations of nonperishable food. Make a difference in someone’s life and bring in a donation. It will be appreciated.

“Bikes for Kids” Campaign

The Cathedral City Police Officers Firefighters are partnering with Toys-R-Us to kick-off the inaugural “Bikes for Kids” campaign, at a press conference on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11am on the steps of Cathedral City Civic Center in Town Square.

The “Bikes for Kids” program allows Police Officers and Firefighters to purchase a 20” bike with a helmet for $50 from Toys-R-Us. The public safety employees hope to bring Christmas joy to boys and girls throughout Cathedral City at a special presentation event on Tuesday, December 21, at noon in Civic Center.

Officers and Firefighters are now accepting donations. Checks should be payable to “Bikes for Kids”. For more information concerning this program call Officer Ernie Vasquez at 318-4925 or Council member Chuck Vasquez at 275-9442.

Attention Varner Road Commuters

Valley commuters using Varner Road on their daily commute are encouraged to use alternate routes beginning Mon. Nov. 27th at 7am – 5:30pm.

Road construction includes shoulder widening, new turn-outs and grinding/repaving on Varner Rd. The current two lanes will be reduced to one lane during construction with a pilot car leading traffic flow.

The project is expected to be completed in late January.
