Report Street Lights That Aren’t Working

Public Works wants to be sure that all street lights in the city are functioning properly – not only for traffic safety, but also for neighborhood security. Checking all the street lights in the City is no easy task, as you can imagine. Help out Public Works by reporting street lights that aren’t operating. E-mail Pat Milos our Public Works Director at pmilos@cathedralcity.gov if a light is out and include complete location information: street, nearest cross street, address, landmarks, etc. You can also call Public Works to report a light that isn’t working at 770-0390.

And While You are Looking Around…

Help keep the City clean and report illegal dumping by calling Code Enforcement at 770-8200 (ask for Code enforcement) or the Public Works Office at 770-0390. Help us keep Cathedral City clean!

To report Graffiti call the Graffiti Hotline at 770-8286.

Street Striping Project Progressing

Public Works is re-striping all the major roads and arterials in the City and should have the project completed by the end of November. In addition to striping, large permanent concrete patches are being installed at places that have required constant pot hole repairs. About 20 different sites have been identified as needing the concrete patches.

New Street Sign Prototype Installed

Have you seen the new, blue, illuminated street sign at the intersection of Dinah Shore and Date Palm? The new sign is easier to read, more energy efficient, longer lasting and, as it is attached directly to the mast of the pole, more wind resistant. The City would like to replace, over time, all street signs with the new model.

Street Maintenance Plan Under Development

Engineering and Public Works are in the initial phase of developing a 5-year street maintenance plan that will address crack sealing, intersection improvements, drainage installation, slurry sealing and some complete renovations. It is hoped that the plan can begin to be implemented in January 2007.

The new firefighter/paramedics received training ranging from pulling fire hose, connecting supply hose to fire hydrants, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and basic fire behavior. They will be assigned to our medic ambulances and receive more comprehensive training during their probationary year. The new firefighter/paramedics are: Dennis Leonard, Jim Taylor, Justin Vondriska, Steve Meyer, and Joseph Bourque.

Cathedral City Firefighters Help Extinguish Esperanza Fire

The fire department was called into action to assist in the extinguishing of the Esperanza Fire on Thursday. The department received a request for a fire engine and a Strike Team Leader. Captain Shaun Malone, Engineer Chris Duensing, Firefighter Fred Dominguez, and Firefighter/Paramedic Rick West staffed Engine 411 and joined a strike team of other fire engines from Palm Springs, Norco, Hemet, and Indio (Riverside County Fire). Fire Chief Bill Soqui was assigned as Strike Team Leader and Division Chief Robert Van Nortrick assisted as a Strike Team Leader Trainee.

When our firefighters arrived at the incident, they were assigned to protect structures in the Beaumont area. Throughout the night, they fought the fire and, out of several homes that were threaten in fires in their assigned area and the only structure lost was a barn. Great Job!
