Cimarron Ridge

The Planning Commission approved a tentative tract map that includes provisions for 294 residential condominium units on three lots located on about 29.4 acres.

The project, Cimarron Ridge, is located in the Dream Homes Neighborhood near Ramon Road, east of Crossley Road, north of Sarah Street, and west of the Cimarron Golf Course.

The project should go to City Council for approval in August or September.

Public Safety Calls

Some interesting Public Safety facts were shared at Tuesday’s Community Neighborhood Meeting at Landau Elementary School. Cathedral City has 53 sworn police officers and an $8.8 million dollar police budget. Palm Springs has 93 sworn police officers and a $14.8 million police budget – 40 officers and $6 million more than Cathedral City, for a smaller population.

A challenged for the Police Department is that when a 911 call is received, about 70% of the time all available officers are already deployed. Calls are prioritized to ensure that the police are responding to the most pressing emergencies. Response to other calls may be delayed until an officer is available. Eight to ten times a month the Fire department must use a private aid unit out of Palm Springs, because all Cathedral City emergency teams are deployed. This can contribute to a delayed response time

Forget the World Cup!

The Cathedral City Girls U-12 soccer team finished 5th overall in their division at the AYSO National Games in Chicago. More importantly, they received a first place medal in sportsmanship. No head-butting for these young athletes! Only eight out of 200 teams received medals.

Commercial Development Proposed

A proposal was submitted by DCS Designers to the Planning Department for Uptown Village – a 9 acre commercial development with eight buildings totaling 68,685 square feet for retail, fast food, restaurant and office uses. The development would be located at the Northeast corner of Date Palm Drive and McCallum Way.

Senior Energy Savings

The Cathedral City Senior Center CFL (compact fluorescent light bulbs) distribution took place on Tuesday, July 18th from 10am to 2pm. Temperatures reached upwards of 109 degrees the day of the event, so we'd like to thank everyone for their support in making the event such a success!

The Partnership sold CFLs to 112 Cathedral City senior residents that attended the event, while educating them about energy efficiency and renewable resources. Of these households, 29% will be first time CFL users. The total estimated savings for the CFLs is 17,883.59 kWh annually for seniors in Cathedral City. At $0.13/kWh, this represents an estimated annual savings of $2,324.87.

Attendees who stopped by the Partnership table were informed of the energy saving technology of CFL bulbs as well as offered educational materials to help them save more energy and money at home.

Moving forward, the Energy Coalition is still looking for Cathedral City Seniors who would be interested in receiving a FREE Community Efficiency Tune-Up. This free service will help seniors save energy and money. A certified contractor will come to your home at NO COST to you. The contractor will provide up to $200 in energy upgrades (material and labor) for your home. The contractor will also recommend additional energy saving improvements you can make and refer you to other energy saving utility programs.

Contact Cathedral City’s Environmental Conservation Manager at 760-770-0369 for more information.

Road Resurfacing

Surface grinding and overlay work will be performed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night on the Date Palm/I 10 interchange.
