More Summer Animal Fun at the Cathedral City Library

The Cathedral City Library Summer Reading Program continues in July (and through August 12th) featuring “Paws to Read” every Monday in July from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. Children read one-on-one to trained therapy dogs to help improve their reading skills.

Wednesday July 12th at 4pm special animals from the Coachella Valley Animal Center will be at the library. Families can learn about pet care, pet safety, and pet adoption. Another session featuring special animals from the Animal Samaritans SPCA will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 4 pm.

Storyteller Ken Frawley is back by popular demand bringing “Fun Animal Tales” to the library. Frawley takes listeners on a delightful journey into their imagination about animals and animal characters.

For adults, there will be FREE adult computer classes, “Log On @ the Library,” on Tuesdays, July 11,18, 25, between 10 am and 11 am. Get tips, advice and answers to your basic computer questions.

“Buck a Bulb”

Cathedral City seniors can purchase up to four compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs) for just a dollar each on Tuesday, July 18th at the Cathedral City Senior Center (68-727 East Palm Canyon Drive, Cathedral City), sponsored the Community Energy Partnership – a partnership of the City of Cathedral City and Southern California Edison, facilitated by The Energy Coalition. CFLs last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs and use on ¼ of the energy.

Information on how Cathedral City seniors can get FREE Community Efficiency Tune-ups will also be at the “Buck a Bulb” event. This free service will help seniors save energy and money. A certified contractor will come to your home at NO COST to you. The contractor will provide up to $200 in energy upgrades (material and labor) for your home. The contractor will also recommend additional energy saving improvements you can make and refer you to other energy saving utility programs.

Community Priorities

In the recent community survey, Cathedral City residents who participated in the telephone survey prioritized city services. They ranked police protection (82%) and Fire/paramedic services (78%) as the city’s two top priorities. 56% of respondents felt that Cathedral City needs more police and firefighters to ensure public safety.

52% of respondents were not aware that Cathedral City voters chose to repeal a city tax in 1999 that reduced the city’s by 15%. 9% were unsure if they had heard this or not. These funds were never replaced.

No First Friday Concert

There will be no First Friday concert in Town Square this Friday. No further First Friday concerts are scheduled at this time.

Ramp Closures

Closure of the West Bound on and off ramp, and East Bound off ramp at Date Palm Drive and I-10 are tentatively scheduled to take place between the night of Sunday July 15th through Saturday morning August 5th. The planned hours of the ramp closures are as follows:

WB on and off ramp
Sunday night 10PM to 5AM Monday morning
Monday through Thursday night 9PM to 6AM the following morning
Friday night 10PM to 7AM Saturday morning

EB off ramp
Sunday night 9PM to 5AM Monday morning
Monday through Thursday night 8PM to 5AM the following morning
Friday night 10PM to 7AM Saturday morning

The first week is to post construction detour signs, the following weeks are for ramp widening, paving, striping, and electrical

The construction is part of the Date Palm Interim Signal and Ramp Widening Project.
