Gentle Reminders of Upcoming Events

The Cathedral City Planning Department is holding a public workshop meeting on Tuesday, May 23rd in the Study Session Room at City Hall to get input from local businesses as it updates the City’s sign ordinance. Please RSVP to Nancy Greene at 770-0370.

The Joffrey Ballet Project is coming to Cathedral City. Come see local students from Cathedral City and Palm Springs’ Boys & Girls Cubs dance the “Boot Dance”, and Pierre Lockett and Cameron Basden of the Joffrey Ballet dance a Pas de Deaux. The event is sponsored by the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission and will be held Sunday, May 21st from 4:15 – 5:00 p.m. in at Cathedral City High School.

Burger and Onion Rings, Please

An application was received by Cathedral City Planning for a 1,718 square foot Sonic Burger restaurant on the west side of Date Palm between 30th and McCallum. Sonic Burger is new to the Valley and soon you’ll be able to get their burgers and delicious onion rings just like they do in Las Vegas.

Chill!

As the weather warms up, why not glide in to the Ice Garden ice skating rink at 68307 East Date Palm Canyon Drive. You can practice just keeping your balance or perfect your triple Lutz – all in cool comfort.

County Press Conference

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office along with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the Riverside County Probaation Department and Supervisor Jeff Stone is proposing a multi-agency Sexual Predator Team to combat sex offenders throughout Riverside County. The California Department of Justice is also a partner in this program. The new task force will be announced at a press conference on May 25, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. at the Riverside Historic Courthouse.

A Proverbial Shred-a-thon

Last Saturday’s Shredding Event was a big success. The event took place outside of the IMAX Theatre and was part of Cathedral City’s Stop Identity Theft program organized by Deanna Pressgrove in the City’s Environmental Conservation office. People, bringing their materials for shredding were lined up from the IMAX Theatre all the way to the Aveda Hi-Lites Salon. The shredding truck was completely filled – roughly equivalent to filling fifty 96-gallon recycling containers.

Do Your Duty

Primary elections throughout California will be held on Tuesday, June 6th. Mark your calendars and Vote.

There’s No Place Like Home

Habitat for Humanity of the Coachella Valley will dedicate two homes this Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 a.m. The homes are located at 32395 & 32399 Canyon Vista in Cathedral City. Habitat for Humanity's sole mission is to build decent, affordable housing for those in need. Since the inception of the affiliate in Coachella Valley, Habitat for Humanity has built 20 houses for local area needy families in: Palm Desert, Cathedral City, Coachella and Desert Hot Springs. The Cathedral City Redevelopment Agency provided the land for the two homes, as it has for about eight other Habitat for Humanity projects in the City. The homes were built by volunteers. The Arreola and Osborn families, who will be living in the houses, have spent the past six months working together on constructing their new homes, as well.
