Cinco De Mayo Celebration This Friday in Town Square

Concerts in the Square is presenting a Cinco De Mayo concert in Town Square tomorrow night, 7-10pm. “Los Authenticos” de Juan Sanchez, Teo Villa Y Sus Atrevidos, Kay Designs, Retonos de Mexico and, Alaverto Zepoal will provide the live entertainment.

Food and fun for the whole family. The concert is free and open to the public.

Rio Vista Village Neighborhood Meeting Planned for May 16

Rio Vista Elementary School will be the site for an upcoming Neighborhood Meeting, Tuesday, May 16th, 6pm, in the Multi-purpose Room. Residents will have an opportunity to hear project updates and meet with Developers and City Staff. For more information call the City of Cathedral City at 770-0347.

Soccer Park Meeting – Design Update May 16th

Soccer players, coaches, parent boosters and sponsors are invited to the Soccer Park Design Update Meeting on Tuesday, May 16th, 6pm at Nellie Coffman Middle School. Everyone is invited to see plans of what YOUR park will look like! For more information call the City of Cathedral City at 770-0347.

The Joffrey Comes to Cathedral City!

The Joffrey Ballet Project is coming to Cathedral City May 21st. The world renowned dance company is bringing an unprecedented cultural experience to young Coachella Valley dancers and, non-dancers alike.

The Joffrey is presenting an on-stage Masters Class for ballet students of all levels, as well as a community outreach program to non-dancers, teaching the “Boot Dance”. A Pas de Deux lecture/demonstration will culminate the afternoon activities. Fifty students from the Cathedral City and Palm Springs Boys & Girls Clubs will participate in the “Boot Dance” class; and, 50 students from the Cathedral City Dance Program, as well as the Cathedral City High School Dance Program will participate in the Masters Class.

The Joffrey Project is coming to Cathedral City through the efforts of the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission.

Fountainworks Festival July 3rd

Plans are underway for the 2006 Fountainworks Festival in Town Square on July 3rd. The celebration begins at 7pm with magicians, jugglers, food vendors and live entertainment. The Johnny Meza Trio featuring Lola Rossi and the US Marine Corps Band will warm up the crowd for headliner, jazz musician Poncho Sanchez and his eight-piece Latin Jazz Band.

Cathedral City Fire Chief Leaving

Steve Sowles, Cathedral City Fire Chief since 1996, will be leaving the department at the end of June to accept the position as Fire Chief with the Snowmass Village, Colorado Fire Protection District.

Chief Sowles first joined the Cathedral City Fire Department in 1987 as Administrative Captain, was promoted to Battalion Chief of Operations and Training, re-classified to Assistant Fire Chief in 1995, and Fire Chief in 1996.
