Trilussa opening April 11

You heard it here first – Trilussa Ristorante opens in the Pickfair Promenade (the new retail area) Tuesday, April 11. They’ll be open for dinner that night and thereafter serve lunch and dinner seven days a week.

The new restaurant can accommodate about 85 patrons in the elegant main dining room, bar, private party room and on the outdoor patio with an expansive view of the Fountain of Life and the snow-capped peaks of Mt. San Jacinto. The restaurant will cater to local residents, with visitors as a secondary market.

Owner Sam Pace is already starting with the Luck of the Irish. After months of searching for a liquor license he could buy, he was notified just three days ago that he won one of the lottery spots awarded for a very limited number of licenses throughout the state.

Officials converge on Cathedral City

Rosario Marin, secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency, will be one of the speakers at the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO) Conference at the Doral Desert Princess April 18-21. Conference Chair Lynn Mallotto is making sure the 200 delegates enjoy what our city has to offer visitors -- restaurants and shops downtown and throughout the city, as well as our attractions.

Deanna Pressgrove, environmental conservation manager, is a finalist in the CAPIO 2006 Excellence in Communications Awards competition for her submission of the document shredding event program.

Pickford: You’re surrounded

Just as CK Construction finishes construction on the 61-unit apartment building east of the Mary Pickford Theatre, the developer has submitted plans for a 23,000 sq. ft. retail, office, restaurant building west of the Pickford. The application for the proposed new two-story structure goes to the Planning Commission April 19.

Campanile boosts March construction valuation

The Campanile residential project being built by John Wessman and Mario Gonzalez off Ramon Road accounted for the lion’s share of construction during the month of March. Total valuation reached the $16.5 million mark, a large increase over the monthly totals for the past year. The main commercial project was storage units on Date Palm Drive.

Two-day detour

McCallum Way will be closed from Walden Way to Azur Drive from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 10 and 11 (and possibly Wednesday), while Jones Bros. installs a CVWD sewer line. Detour will be Willow

See flashing red no more

The new traffic signal controller at Ramon Road and Outdoor Resorts has been installed and the signal is back in normal operation. It was on flashing red for about three weeks while a lane in each direction was added, left-turn pockets were built and a median island was constructed. All equipment and construction were paid for by the Campanile development.

April in … where else?

Robert Rodriguez in Planning and his 13-year-old son are off to Paris for a week. They will enjoy the sights (but sadly not the food) as part of a tour arranged by teachers at Indio Middle School. Since it took Rodriguez 10 years to try orange chicken at Panda Express, he may not be gobbling up the pate de fois gras by the end of the trip.

More opportunity for home ownership

The First Time Home Buyer assistance program has been updated to meet the changing housing market and needs of potential applicants. The maximum home price has been increased to $344,650 and the maximum income a family can earn has also been raised. For example, a family of four can earn up to $46,000 and a family of seven can earn up to $57.050. Buyers who qualify for the First Time Home Buyers program and the American Dream Downpayment Initiative program could receive up to $50,000 in assistance through a silent second mortgage. Another program can provide assistance with closing costs, if needed. Assisted homebuyers must attend an eight-hour homeownership education course. .

Complete informational packets on the various programs to help low-income persons become home buyers for the first time are available in Spanish and English at the city’s Housing Office.
