Want to raise money for your charity?

There are three open spots for non-profits to vie for a chance to sell July 4th fireworks as a fund raiser under a program sponsored by the Fire Department.

Charitable and non-profit groups interested in operating a fireworks concession booth for about a week during the Independence Day holiday should apply by April 7. For more information, call 770-8208.

The City Council has allotted eight booth spaces for the project. Six have been allocated to: the Cathedral City Boxing Club, Boys and Girls Club, High School Booster Club, Chamber of Commerce, the Calvary Christian School and the Senior Center. Two additional spaces are available through a lottery. However, so far, the Senior Center has declined to participate this year, increasing the number of lottery spaces to three.

What works for us?

The Redevelopment Agency is soliciting proposals for a comprehensive retail market analysis. It will help focus the RDA’s economic development and marketing efforts on attracting businesses that are likely to succeed in Cathedral City, according to Jan Davison, agency director. It will look at current and future economic and market conditions affecting the city’s commercial districts, what types of retail is most likely to be successful, ways to attract those businesses, and what kinds of businesses the city is losing and why. Firms that are interested in submitting proposals, which primarily provide their qualifications, should contact Charlene Sumpter, redevelopment project manager, at 760-770-0388. Deadline is April 10.

Comings and goings

Thanks to spring rains and the Breslows …

More sunflower signs with their safety messages will be sprouting up in the community. Following a test of 10 intersections, the City Council has authorized the installation of the signs at 10 additional intersections. The purple and yellow signs are designed, produced and donated by local residents Patty and Marc Breslow. They bear messages such as “Watch for Children,” “Buckle Up,” and “Drive Safely.”
